Carroll, et al. v. Interstate Brands Corporation (Wonder Brand/Hostess)

Carroll, Brown and McLemore are among 15 African American Wonder Bread workers who have joined together in San Francisco Superior Court to file an unusual racial discrimination lawsuit against Wonder, the nation’s largest bakery.

Wonder’s parent, the Kansas City, Mo.-based Interstate Brands Corp., says it strives to maintain a workplace that is free from racial discrimination.

But in their complaint, the 15 men — who say they represent nearly half of all the African American whom the company employs in the Bay Area — say Wonder’s local operations is so inhospitable to black workers that it’s known as "the White House."

By their account, the company refuses to hire new black employees in San Francisco and won’t promote the ones it has. The suit contends that black workers are given worst jobs and cut far less slack then other employees.
