Hardcore Pornography Litters San Jose Fire Department
SAN JOSE, CA- After repeated incidents involving hardcore pornography being found at her station, veteran firefighter Julie LaBlanc filed suit today, alleging harassment, retaliation and failure to prevent harassment. Firefighter LaBlanc was stunned to learn that her nine-year-old son had found hardcore pornography while visiting her at the station. LaBlanc later found an entire locker filled with pornography. When she complained to her supervisors, she faced ostracism and retaliation. Despite numerous complaints, the pornography resurfaced and the hostile work environment has not improved. Plaintiff's attorneys, Angela Alioto and Joshua D. Boxer, who recently won another case involving a female firefighter, were shocked that this type of behavior is still condoned in a major metropolitan fire department in 2008. "Allowing this type of conduct sends a powerful message to women throughout this department that they are simply not welcomed and will not be treated as equals," said Alioto.
